There's a simple philosophy at work in the Ship Inn, Mawgan. Lynton Williams, Mawgan born and bred, took over as landlord in late-2008, along with partner Marta. His aim: putting the pub back at the heart of its community, with an offering which emphasises local Cornish produce. Well-priced, unpretentious, home-cooked food, with ingredients sourced locally where possible, is a good start. This is backed up by a commitment to serving excellent local ales in the peak of condition, complemented by a well-chosen wine list. And most of all, a warm welcome for locals and visitors alike.
Mawgan-in-Meneage is situated at the gateway to Cornwall's Lizard peninsula, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and close to the beautiful Helford River, with its historic and romantic associations. For those wanting to make a day of it, this is wonderful walking country, whilst local attractions in the immediate vicinity include such as FutureWorld@Goonhilly and the National Seal Sanctuary at Gweek.

Sunday lunch is something of a local institution. This year's wonderful Beer Festival, in conjunction with Mawgan's Feast Week - ran from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th June. And periodic appearances by local bands make for some lively Friday and Saturday nights!

If this makes The Ship sound too hectic for you to enjoy a peaceful drink, don't worry. The Snug is just that: a cosy corner, with a wood-burning stove. Dogs and dog owners are welcome here, and children - with well-behaved adults! The pub also has a garden for its customers to enjoy in warmer weather.
